From June 28th to July 3rd, young researchers from across Europe and beyond came together in Gรถd, Hungary, for an intensive week dedicated to sediment management, river processes, and sustainable water management.
Organised by Global Water Partnership – Central and Eastern Europe (GWP-CEE) and hosted by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) at its Danube research facilities in Gรถd, the Summer School combined scientific excellence with practical, hands-on experience.

๐ River dynamics, sediment transport, and river morphology,
๐ถ Field measurements on the Danube using state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and research boats,
๐งช Laboratory analyses and advanced sediment monitoring techniques,
๐ป Hydrodynamic and sediment modelling, environmental data analysis, and digital tools,
๐ฐ๏ธ Earth Observation applications for river monitoring and management,
๐ค Interdisciplinary teamwork addressing real-world sediment management challenges.
The programme also included a study visit to the Szentendrei Island restoration site and the nearby water well, where participants learned how river restoration measures and riverbank filtration help ensure safe drinking water while supporting sediment balance, healthy river ecosystems, and long-term water resilience.
Beyond the lectures and field activities, the Summer School fostered new friendships, interdisciplinary collaboration, and valuable professional connections that we hope will continue well beyond this week.
