iNNO SED at the 15th Sofia Science Festival

17th May 2025
On May10th-11th, the Geological Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (GI-BAS) took part in the 15th Sofia Science Festival event, with a demonstration stand themed “Critical and Strategic Raw Materials: From the Ore to the Tailing”.

The aim of the stand was to increase public awareness of critical and strategic raw materials by introducing visitors to a collection of basic raw materials extracted in Bulgaria, Europe and the World, waste products from primary mining as potential sources of critical and strategic raw materials, as well as the application and importance of the final products for a sustainable and efficient economy.

At the stand, our GI-BAS partners provided participants with brochures, banners, and posters highlighting some of the current programmes and projects the institute is participating in, including our iNNO SED project! And not forgetting our younger participants,  GI-BAS prepared a range of minerals, fossils, and rock samples as part of a joint initiative with MON NP "Education with Science"! All visitors to the stand received beautiful post cards displaying fossils, minerals and geological sites from Bulgaria with all photos being credited to colleagues from the Geological Institute.

We would like to thank the GI-BAS team for for representing the iNNO SED project at such a pretigious event, and for ensuring visitors had a wonderful and informative time!
