Researchers’ Night at BME
BME wrapped up this year’s Researchers’ Night with great success!
5th October 2026

Our partners at Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) were happy to see both kids and adults marvel at the wonders of nature and engineering during Researchers’ Night (Kutatók Éjszakája) on the 25th of September.
It is an annual festival in Hungary inviting the public to come and see science in action with interactive experiences and a rich programme of events. Opening their doors too, our partners at BME gave the participants plenty to get hands-on with!
Many experienced up close how rivers reshape the landscape and saw firsthand the diverse sediment types hidden across different reaches of the Danube basin. Building – and breaking! – a miniature dam was an absolute blast for all ages.
In our Paks model, you could step into the shoes of a real hydraulic engineer: many participants built mini bottom sills out of gravel, and we found out who was the absolute best at assembling mobile dikes!
Jigsaw puzzles featuring floods, river sediment, and fish ladders put logic and speed to the test.
For the little ones (and creative adults!), fish-themed coloring sheets were waiting, ensuring the flow of art, too.
It was a wonderful experience sharing our and the rivers’ work with the public.
